Tsi’pin, Ghost Ranch, Georgia O’Keefe Museum

Tsi'pin (Tewa Pueblo) AKA Cerro Pedernal AKA Flint Mountain has been considered a sacred mountain for thousands of years. I noticed it poking its prominent nose out at me as we drove north and east toward O’Keefe’s former home, but long before we’d actually entered that river valley. Tsi’pin also features prominently in Georgia O’Keefe’s work, as one of the most impressive sights from the little ridge her old cabin sits on.

This was our first and not our last hike with Djamal…he tolerated the adventure merely.

I didn't see what I expected! It is a fairly small museum. One of the guards told me what's on display from her collection is regularly cycled in and out of storage or lent out to other museums. He himself had seen 13 years worth of paintings migrating through the museum.

I particularly enjoyed the red letter from GO'K about her cooking:

Equally important to a liking for garlic and onions for equipment, I place a quality of touch — You have to make love to the food if you want it to be good.

Now there is a bit of the bitch in every good recipe. I want to write this book on cooking, but I don’t really want to give away my good recipes and really I can’t—because no one can really give away the quality of their own touch.”

Sure enough, a posthumously assembled ‘cookbook’ waited in the gift shop, and I went so far as to page through it but no further than that. Better to develop my own touch.
